Green-Fingered School Children Rake in MP Support • Fri, 5th March

Local MP Geoff Hoon visited Lynncroft Primary And Nursery School in Eastwood Nottinghamshire to present pupils with a shed load of free gardening equipment thanks to the Morrisons ‘Let’s Grow’ programme. The school is just one of more than 22,000 primary and secondary schools across the UK to get growing their greens with ‘Let’s Grow’ over the last two years.

Over the last two years of the campaign, more than 22,000 schools across the country have redeemed millions of Let’s Grow vouchers to collect hundreds of thousands of pieces of gardening equipment ranging from watering cans to wormeries and wellies to weather stations.

Let’s Grow was set up by Morrisons two years ago and is supported by celebrity gardener, Diarmuid Gavin. It encourages school children to take up their trowels, get hands on and learn about growing fruit and vegetables in a fun and practical way both inside and outside the classroom.

Three fifths (60%) of UK primary schools and almost half (40%) of UK secondary schools are now helping to get pupils growing fresh fruit and vegetables after collecting gardening equipment through the Morrisons Let’s Grow campaign.

Local MP Geoff Hoon said, 'It’s great to see Lynncroft Primary And Nursery School benefitting from the chance to collect free gardening equipment for its pupils. It’s a great way to help children learn about fruit and vegetables and hopefully it will encourage them to begin eating more too!'

Steve Wrigley at Morrisons Nottingham Eastwood, said: 'The enthusiasm for the ‘Morrisons Let’s Grow’ campaign has been tremendous and we’ve had some wonderful feedback from parents, teachers and children. While it’s fantastic that the kids are looking forward to digging into the mud, there’s an important message here about getting young people interested in healthy fresh food and how it’s produced.'
