Ashfield Constituency
Geoff Hoon's Ashfield Constituency is situated in North Nottinghamshire. Mining and textiles traditionally dominated the local economy and Ashfield continues to be an attractive location for many firms. A wide variety of multi-national organisations can now be found on development sites, including household names such as Boots the Chemist and L'Oreal. Development and regeneration funds from local, national and European sources have also helped growth and development in the local area.
Ashfield has an abundance of wide, open spaces such as Brierley Forest Park in Huthwaite, Portland Park in Kirkby and Teversal Trails, Teversal. It is also conveniently located for the Peak District, one of the country's most popular national parks, and Sherwood Forest, home of the legendary Robin Hood. The local area is famous for great historical and cultural figures such as D.H Lawrence and Lord Byron and there are a number of tourist attractions to visit which celebrate their lives and work.
Leisure and sport are well served by sports centres, recreational grounds and local parks. The local Ashfield Show which is held every summer attracts thousands of people from across the country.
